Africa Modern Collection – Large Cylinder Bowl

This piece is part of the Africa Modern Collection, which blends rustic warmth with modern minimalism. Each item in the collection features a matte exterior and a glossy interior, creating a striking contrast in both texture and finish.

The bold pattern on the exterior is created using the traditional technique of sgraffito—an Italian word meaning "to scratch." I applied a layer of black slip over the white clay body, then carefully carved through it to reveal the clay beneath. The resulting vertical lines evoke a natural rhythm, adding both visual and tactile depth to the piece.

Perfect as a centerpiece or serving bowl, this hand-carved piece brings a grounded, modern elegance to any space.
